Mia used to “make up” most of the words in the books she loved, filling in what she couldn’t yet read. As a working mom, Esmeralda knew her daughter needed help but didn’t know how to give her all the support she deserved.
At BASIC Academy’s summer reading program, Mia got the tools, patient teaching, and encouragement she needed to move from reading below grade level to reading above it—and now she reads just for the joy of it. Her imagination is bigger, her confidence is stronger, and she’s better prepared for the challenges ahead.
